UMEX GATEWAY

Through this project, UMEX S.A. will acquire 17 port equipment units (3 front loaders, 2 cargo-handling cranes, 10 conveyor belts, 1 elevator, and 1 chain conveyor). The main purpose of this acquisition is to optimize the flow of grains and oilseeds, especially those originating from Ukraine. The investment does not represent a diversification of activity, but an increase in the company’s operating capacity, consolidating the more than 20 years of experience of Umex SA in this field. The cost relative to the additional capacity is 10.91 lei/ton (excluding VAT), and the new equipment will allow more efficient handling of operated cargo volumes and will increase grain and oilseed operating capacity by 960,000 tons/year.

Through this acquisition, productivity is expected to increase by approximately 20% (960,000 tons/year), due to the increase in the number of cranes, conveyor belts, and front loaders. The new cranes will increase barge unloading capacity by approximately 160 tons/hour, facilitating the rapid transshipment of goods to ships. In addition, the extended conveyor belt system (120 meters in total) will allow a more efficient transfer of goods between barges, trucks, railcars, and the warehouse. The elevator with feeding belt will improve the storage process, increasing grain storage capacity by 4,500 tons, which represents an 18% increase in transit productivity through the warehouse.

The main beneficiaries of this project are: producers, exporters, traders, and beneficiaries of grains/oilseeds produced in Ukraine. UMEX is a private joint-stock company, established in 1978, as an important outlet to the Black Sea for Romanian exports, especially exports of industrial equipment and oversized projects. Over the course of its activity, the range of services and operations has been diversified, and the handling of bulk products (grains and fertilizers) has become predominant, placing Umex SA among the most important operators in this segment.
