UMEX GATEWAY PROJECT COMPLETION

As part of the “Transport Program 2021-2027 – State Aid Scheme for Investments in Port Infrastructure to Reduce the Blockade in the Black Sea Region Due to the Armed Conflict in Ukraine,” Umex SA has successfully completed the implementation of the non-reimbursable financing contract signed with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, with the grant amounting to 9,852,550 lei (50% from the Cohesion Fund and 50% from the State Budget).

The “Umex Gateway” project, which is the subject of the non-reimbursable financing contract, involves the acquisition of port equipment and machinery for loading, unloading, and handling goods, which will increase the handling capacity for cereals and oilseeds by 960,000 tons per year. The objective of the project is to streamline the flow of goods (primarily cereals and oilseeds) through the Port of Constanța.

UMEX is a private joint-stock company, established in 1978 as a key export point on the Black Sea for Romanian exports, particularly industrial equipment and oversized project exports.

Over time, the range of services and operations has diversified, and bulk product handling (cereals and fertilizers) has become predominant, positioning Umex SA among the leading operators in this segment.

The UMEX terminal is located in the Port of Constanța, utilizing operational berths No. 38, 39, 40, and 44, as well as berth RORO 3. The terminal’s structure ensures a high degree of operational flexibility, allowing for the application of various technological processes for handling a comprehensive range of goods.

The equipment and machinery acquired through the program will increase the terminal’s handling and storage capacities for cereals, with cereals representing the largest segment of UMEX’s activity, both in terms of volume and turnover.
