Efficiency in handling and storage of fertilizers

We operate an annual quantity of up to 500,000 tons of bulk fertilizers and we can simultaneously store a quantity of 20,000 tons of fertilizers. We have a specialized bagging installation, which allows us to pack bulk cargo in bags of various sizes: from 25 kg to 2,000 kg.
Depending on the algorithm of the operational processes performed on a ship, we can obtain vessel discharging rates up to 5000 tons / 24 hours.

For handling bulk fertilizers we mainly use 4 operating berths with a total length of 815 meters and a water depth of up to 13.5 meters.

Innovative solutions for fertilizer handling and storage

Given the constant increase in the volume of fertilizers transiting the Port of Constanța, this segment becomes an important part of our business strategy.

Thus, an important UMEX investment is the multifunctional warehouse for the operation/ storage of bulk fertilizers with a total storage capacity of approximately 66,000 tons, divided into 10 equal compartments, 2 symmetrical rows of 5 compartments per row.

The warehouse is supplied with granulated bulk products directly from the ships moored in berth 44, or from trucks or trains using the belt conveyors, at a capacity of 600 t/h .

For the delivery of the cargoes stored in the warehouse, there will be 3 circuits, respectively:

  • transfer of bulk cargo to the ship’s loading bin, at berth 44 to be loaded on the ship or barge with a crane equipped with grab
  • loading bulk cargo onto the truck or wagon
  • the transfer of bulk cargo to cargo bagging installations
An important investment, part of UMEX current development direction, is represented by the temporary liquid fertilizers terminal. The two tanks for operating/storing liquid fertilizers have a total capacity of 5000 m3 (2500 m3 each) and extend on a 500 square meters built area.

The tanks are supplied with the liquid cargo directly from the vessel moored alongside Berth 44, with a capacity of 200 m3/h and a pressure of approximately 4 bar/h.
